Kilt off!

A man whose video of kilted yoga sessions in a Scottish forest became a viral hit has been targeted with homophobic hate mail at his home.

Police Scotland has issued an appeal for witnesses after Finlay Wilson, from Dundee, whose Kilted Yogi videos were viewed more than 50 million times worldwide last month, received a letter telling him to leave his home and threatening his safety.

The handwritten note was left on the 30-year- old’s doorstep at his home in the city on Tuesday morning.

Mr Wilson said: “It said threatening stuff like ‘you need to watch yourself’ and they said they’d been watching my videos online and that they want me to get out. I don’t really know anyone in the building. My friends have been saying they didn’t realise this sort of thing still happened in this day and age. I was upset at first, but now I am furious because someone’s aim is to intimidate me and terrorise me into leaving my home because of their own bigoted beliefs.”

Colchest-ooer!

“As we came into the wide open field, an elderly man of about 70 or 80 years of age with a very thick beard emerged from the bushes. He was wearing a huge white wedding dress. Much to our shock, he reprimanded us for being in a gay area, telling us ‘did we know this area was reserved for the gay community and we should not be there. He told us he was there, seeking sexual encounters in the woodlands.”

German Parliament to consider compensating Paragraph 175 survivors

Germany’s cabinet has backed a bill to clear men handed sentences for homosexuality after World War Two under paragraph 175 of the penal code, which was eventually relaxed in 1969. 50,000 men were convicted under paragraph 175.

Many were sent to jail and some took their own lives because of the stigma.
Justice Minister Heiko Maas said it was a flagrant injustice and those still alive would be given compensation.

The German cabinet decided today to back the bill annulling the sentences and proposing paying compensation to survivors affected. If passed, every man convicted who is still alive will receive a €3,000 lump sum plus a further €1,500 for each year spent in jail.

Only 5,000 men are thought to be eligible for compensation as most have since died.

You tube if you want to

Some gay users of YouTube are discovering that gay themed content is now being restricted. YouTube has been criticised for having non-explicit videos featuring LGBTQ themes classed as restricted, which filters out “potentially inappropriate” content.

YouTube said: “Some videos that cover subjects like health, politics and sexuality may not appear for users and institutions that choose to use this feature.” Filtering out what is and isn’t appropriate can be difficult in the case of LGBT topics, which are by definition intertwined with health, politics and sexuality.

YouTube followed that statement with another hours later: “We recognise that some videos are incorrectly labelled by our automated system and we realise it’s very important to get this right. We’re working hard to make some improvements.” The company offered no further explanation.

The website’s rules also state that videos “containing nudity or dramatised sexual conduct may be age restricted when the context is appropriately educational, documentary, scientific or artistic. Videos featuring individuals in minimal or revealing clothing may also be age restricted if they’re intended to be sexually provocative but don’t show explicit content.”

Jeffrey tries again

Jeffrey John | Press Association | 17070

Here we go again. The Church in Wales has been urged to reconsider its decision to exclude Jeffrey John from its appointments process for the next bishop of Llandaff amid accusations of homophobia.

The chapter of St Albans Cathedral, where Jeffrey John is dean, said on Monday that “the fact that it appears Jeffrey’s sexuality and civil partnership have been used against him in the selection process is wholly wrong, and it is only right that the bishops in Wales review the process before making an appointment”.

Jeremy Pemberton of OneBodyOneFaith called for an inquiry into the Church in Wales’s process before an appointment and for a public apology to be issued to John “for homophobic remarks and attitudes”. The church’s behaviour had been “unjust and discriminatory”, and bishops must abide by their own guidelines regarding candidates who are gay and in civil partnerships.

In 2003, John was appointed as bishop of Reading but the then archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, asked him to stand aside after some traditionalists threatened to leave the Church of England if his consecration went ahead.

John has a long-term relationship with Grant Holmes, another C of E clergyman, and the couple entered a civil partnership in 2006.

Finland ties the knot

Gay Marriage became legal in Finland this year, and on the day the law came into effect, there were many same-sex marriage ceremonies which in some cases were held in groups.

A 23-year-old Kurd who identified himself as Ziryan and from the Kurdistan Region got married to a Finnish man named Tomi on March 1, 2017.

“I have decided to marry a man. It is neither acting nor something artificial. This is my nature which I am proud of,” Ziryan said. “I am not a stranger. It was the society that didn’t accept me.”

He smuggled his way all the way to Finland, taking him two years to get there. He has been living in Finland for one and a half year.

“I am proud to be the first gay Kurd in Finland to hold the ceremony on this historic day, being one of those whose names were written in the history of this country,” he added.

Ziryan told Rudaw that his relatives had tried to kill him in the past.

“I was beaten up twice and injured, trying to kill me.”

Is Gay TV turning people off?

A scene from “When we rise” | ABC | 17060

The recent ratings flop of an American TV miniseries about gay rights confirms that Americans are not tuning in to pro-LGBTQ programming, reports Lifesite News.

ABC’s miniseries “When We Rise” was about the “gay rights” revolution. As Heatstreet reported, “When We Rise received saturation ad coverage during the Oscars ahead of its premiere this week. But the hype didn’t work and the show tanked from the first episode.”

When We Rise was the lowest-rated program on the Big 4 US Networks [CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX] and second lowest-rated overall last night, matching the CW’s Supergirl (0.7, even with last week). The CW’s Jane The Virgin (0.3) was off by a tenth.

The Advocate described When We Rise as “a sprawling tale of queer liberation that covers the Stonewall riots to marriage equality to the transgender rights battle.” The ABC series was directed by “out” homosexual Dustin Lance Black, whose previous work includes the acclaimed film “Milk” about Harvey Milk.

In recent years, gay themed television shows have not been successful on American TV. My friends on Facebook who have seen the series were very disappointed and upset by it. Could it be that gay themed TV shows are no longer relevant in some western countries, because we have moved on, and integrated?
