Hate crimes up again

The Crown Prosecution Service have released the latest statistics for hate crimes, in their eighth Hate Crime Report. The number of cases pursued by the CPS rose 4.8% overall in 2015-6.

There were 1,469 prosecutions for homophobic and transphobic crimes, a rise of 15% on the previous year. The conviction rate increased from 81 to 83%.

84 per cent of all hate crime prosecutions were for racially and religiously aggravated hate crime.
